The Nile River flows North to South for 4,160 miles through Egypt. When it runs through Egypt, water flow creates fertile green valleys across the deserts shown in the picture below.
For years the population has always been based on the Nile. The northern section of the river flows almost entirely through deserts from Sudan into Egypt. The Nile has two major tributaries, the White Nile and the Blue Nile. The White Nile is considered to be the headwaters and primary stream of the Nile itself. The Blue Nile begins at Lake Tana in Ethiopia and flows into Sudan from the southeast.
